MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson yesterday. The chairman (Cr J. G. Wilson) presided, and Crs R. B. McKenzie, Barber, Henson, Hunt, and Masters were also present. Letters were received as follows : From Tourist Department, suggesting that finger-posts might be put on the roads where required. From Public Works Department, stating that a warrant to construct the Beach road at Foxton had been signed. From Dr. Wall, Wanganui, asking if there was a road along the southern boundary of section 22, Moutoa. From Department of Lands and Survey, in regard to the above, stating there was a road 100 links wide shown on the plans. From F'oxton Town Clerk, forwarding a statement of accounts owing by the Manawatu County Council to his Borough Council, and asking for settlement. From Mr Thomas Stuart, Himatangi, agreeing to pay 10s per acre for lease reserve.

The County Treasurer reported as follows ;

General account dr., 2s id; loan account cr., ,£777 os gd ; net credit balance, ,£694 iSs Sd.

Ridings. Amounts available for expenditure : Saudon /‘Bl 12s rod, Mt. Stewart ,£79 13s lod ; Waitohi ,£144 16s 4d, Carnarvon £iy ids. Amounts over expended: Rongotea £7 12s 3d, Kawakawa £lO 13s 1 id, Awahou ,£62 5s 6d, Whirokino £26 Ss 46. The Tramway Manager reported : The traffic on all lines was again good, and resulted in a credit balance being made for the month of 9 s nd. The principal items of traffic were: Grain 251 tons, minerals 93 tons, merchandise 12534 tons, grass seed 169 tons, timber 45,000 feet, wool 238 bales, metal 295 yards, fares ,£l3 Ss id. On 17th ult., a special train was run from Whale Line to Pukenui in connection with the Carnarvon and Mokowhai school excursions to Wanganui, and £5 18s qd was taken in fares. It was decided to apply to Government for provisional approval of a loan of /,125c to construct the Beach road at Foxton.
