BOWLING.
Foxton met their Waterloo yesterday, when Otaki came in quest of the Mauawatu Ferns, when they were defeated by six points after a good game. Foxton. Otaki. Hennessv Ferguson Petrie Satherly Rimmer O’Rourke Witchell (s) 17 Brown (s) 23 Mr Brown, in a short speech after the match, expressed his pleasure at their victory, and also in the good spirit the game was played in. He made special reference to the green, stating that he had bowled on several, including greens at Wellington, and it was certainly the best he had _ played on, in fact he had told his team before they started if they were beaten it would be on their play, as the green left nothing to be desired. He concluded by inviting the Foxton Club to Otaki at any time, and hoped they would meet again, not only tor the Mauawatu Ferns, but also for the Kinniburgh Feathers. Seeing we had several lady players, he hoped a team would also visit Otaki, as they had a team that would be happy to meet them. Mr Stiles suitably responded on behalf of the local Club, and promised Otaki an early visit. Cheers for the visitors were acknowledged with a like compliment for Foxton, and the afternoon closed with a hearty response tor the ladies. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Stiles, Adams, Boyes, Rimmer, and Misses Speirs. The Kinniburgh Feathers have been with Otaki some time, they having defended them successfully upon no less than eighteen occasions. Three of the lour players competing yesterday are the holders, Mr Stevens being the fourth. Foxton has a big contract on hand. Owing to the interruptions in club play it has been decided to play for the Club Feathers every Saturday and Wednesday, commencing next Saturday, at 3 o’clock. Congratulations to Otaki on their meritorious win. Foxton’s fight to hold the trophies against such doughty men deserves more than passing praise. Otaki, excepting one man, had their champion rink on the job yesterday, ond when we add that this is their third year’s playing, against Foxcon’s few months, Foxton’s showing is very good. Put the two rinks together day in and out, and little, if any, margin would separate them. We hope that the Foxton bowlers will girdle up their loins and go afield in search of greater victories.
