THE CONVENT.
The Convent in connection with the local Roman Catholic Church is now out of the contractors’ hands, the final work, painting, having been completed last week. The building is a two-storeyed one, 33ft. by 36ft. and is built throughout of rimu. ,Tt contains eight rooms, two halls, bathroom, storeroom, pantry, etc. On the ground floor is a parlour 14 x 14, dining room 14 x 14, kitchen and another room, also storeroom, pantry and hall. Upstairs there are four rooms, bathroom and hall. Two of the rooms are 14 x 14, one 12 x 14 and the other 14 x n. Hot and cold water is laid on and the building is replete with all conveniences. All the rooms with the exception of the kitchen, storeroom, bathroom, which are oiled and spirit varnished, are scrimmed and papered. There are four fireplaces, in three of which grates are fitted, and in the fourth a range. At the back is a wash house and all the necesssary outbuildings. The contractors were Messrs Easton Bros,, and everything has been carried out in a very satisfactory manner. The plumbing work was done by Mr F. W. Hopper, bricklaying, by Mr W. Nye, and the painting and paperhanging by Mr F. E. Jeuks.
