HEMP MARKET. The High. Commissioner cabled to us at noon yesterday as follows : Hemp Market is quiet. Manila output, 26,000 bales. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Land Department, Palmerston N., report as follows : A better tone prevails, business being done free from the speculative element, and is generally on a very sound basis. Good land close to Palmerston North is selling at firm prices with an upward tendency. Sheep country is firm at current rates. During the last two months we have sold the following : PRIVATE SALES OE FARM LANDS. Six hundred and forty acres, freehold, and 211 acres, 1.i.p., at Apiti, from Mr C. B. Swainson to Mr G. C. Hare ; 416 acres near Marton, from Mr Giesen to Mr A. Stewart; 384 acres, in three sections, at Karere, from Mr O. Mon rad to Mr W. I. Lovelock ; ix.ooo acres of Native lease at Mokau, from Fraser and Son to a Palmerston North syndicate (this sale made in conjunction with Mr J. M. Johnston).
