AN KXCITING RACK. Nkw York, Feb. 19. A Mexican accused of murder at Porteville, California, narrowly escaped lynching. A band of citizens in fifty motor cars left a neighbouring town bent on lynching. The sheriff’s posse followed. An exciting race ensued. An explosion occurred on the sheriff’s motor eu route. The sheriff was injured, but commandeered a second motor and won the race. He hastily swore in deputies and held the mob till the prisoner was gaoled.
