CRICKET.

On Saturday afternoon a team from the Old Boys’ Club Palmerston North visited Foxton and jdayed a local team on the Park pilch. Tne visitors arrived with only eight men and fielded three substitutes. They however proved too strong for the Foxtonians, scoring 63 for six wickets to the home team’s 48. Warden won the toss and sent his men into the field. Foxton’s innings opened disastrously, in fact with one exception it was a disastrous display all through, the only double figure scorer being the colt, Howe, who knocked up 17. He was the only batsmen whom the visitors bowling did not seem to trouble to any extent. Luckily for Foxton the visitors did not bring their wicketkeeper with them and they consequently had to put a new man behind the stumps with the result that “Mr Extras” helped Foxton’s total considerably. His contribution to the score was 15. The fielding of the visitors was fairly good and the bowling kept the batsmen thinking the whole time they were at the wickets, which, with the exception of Howe, was a very short period. Manawatu rep. Greer was in excellent form, securing six wickets at a cost of 13 runs. Whibley and McMurray opened the bowling for Foxton but did not trouble Greer and Holland at all, runs coming fairly freely. The Foxton skipper made a great mistake in keeping these bowlers on so long and thereby threw away any chance of winning that Foxton may have had. As soon as the bowling was changed a separation was effected and the other wickets then fell quickly. Howe was in splendid form with the ball and secured five wickets for six runs. The following are the scores : FOXTON. Holt, b Greer o Whibley, b Greer 3 McMurray, b Greer 0 Howe, c Warden, b Holland 17 Munro, b Greer 0 Robinson, b Greer 1 Evans, b Greer 6 Cook, b Holland 1 Barber, c Wakelin, b Holland 2 Ward, run out 1 Knewstub, not out 2 Extras 15 Total 48 Bowling Analysis: Greer six wickets for 13 runs, Holland 3 for 8, Cox 0 for 12.
