At the meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board, held last week, the question of connecting the Foxton-Sansou railway with Greatford or Marton was introduced and discussed. While it must be admitted that such connection has a very important bearing upou the future of the local port, we question the wisdom of bracketing it with the negotiations now' pending for the purchase of the wharf. The Board, in our opinion, would be well advised to attempt one thing at a time, and devote their whole
attention to the wharf proposals. To mention railway connection at the present juncture will only place obstacles in the way of a speedy settlement in respect to the wharf. The Manawatu County Council is the proper authority to lay down a policy in connection with the tramway extension, and the Board in view of past experience, should not alio athis matter to come up for discussion when its members interview the Minister.
