FIRE AT MOUTOA.

Yesterday atternoon a fire broke out in the tow shed at the Green Flaxdressiug Company’s Poplar mill at Moutoa, but fortunately was got under control before any great damage was done. The cause of the outbreak was a spark from the engine in which wood was being burned as the firm had run out of coal. The fire had a fair hold before being noticed, but fortunately there was a slight wind blowiing away from the mill and scutching shed which made the work of the employees who were all strenuously battling with the flames somewhat easier. It was due to the efforts of the men that the flames were confined to the tow shed and did not spread to the mill and scutching shed where about 60 bales of hemp were stored. Thirty-five bales of tow were destroyed and the damage is estimated at about ,£SO. There was no insurance.
