Under the amended Municipal Corporations Act, passed last session, the municipal elections, to be held in April next, the franchise will be extended to all adults, male or female, independent of the property or householders’ qualifications. The only conditions affecting suffrage iu connection with municipal elections noware: —Residence in New Zealand for a year, and for three months in the borough iu which application for enrolment is made. Under the new legislation the municipal rolls will close much earlier than usual, and claims for enrolment will have to be made before the middle of P'ebruary, when the main roll will be closed. The names of later applicants will be placed on a supplementary roll, but applications for registration made within fourteen days of the election will not be received.
