The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, January 19, 1911. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
It is very refreshing, in these days of selfishness and greed, to read of the generosity of well-to-do citizens in respect to gifts for the public good. Our public parks and playgrounds are provided in the main out of revenue derived from taxation of the masses. Wanganui possesses a philanthropist in the person of Mr David Peat, who has presented the Borough Council with 13 Yz acres of land for the purpose of a playground for the children of the town. The land is situated on the borough boundary, and constitutes a magnificent gilt, the value of which is difficult to estimate. The Borough Council has decided to call the reserve “ David Peat Park.”
