Everything has been done to ensure the meeting going off without a hitch, and a glance at the acceptances, which appear above, shows that 93 have been received as against 83 of last year, an increase for this year of ten. At many race meetings throughout the Dominion much time is lost at the barrier, but with Mr A. Keith as starter, there should be no trouble in this respect. In Mr W. Gray, the Club have indeed an ideal secretary, who has for some time past been very busy carrying out duties in connection with the meeting, and now has everything well in hand that is necessary to ensure the success of the meeting. The caretaker, Mr A- E. Shadbolt, now has the course in first-class order and the times that are recorded should constitute a record for the course. The local Borough Band has been engaged and during the day will enliven proceedings with spirited selections. Early every morning a number of sports visit the course to witness the preliminaries and some of the times put up are very satisfactory. The only thing now that is required is fine weather, and if the Club is favoured with this the attendance should constitute a record.
