COUNTERFEIT COIN.
STRANGE CASK AT LINTON. Charles Henry O’Loughliu was charged before Messrs R. Edwards and L. Simmons, J’s. P., at Palmerston yesterday, with (i) having in his possession, on or about January 10, seven counterfeit coins, with intent to utter them, and (2), having in his possession, on or about the same date, at Linton, without lawful excuse, a certain mould intended to make the resemblance of both of the sides of certain current coin, to wit, a half-crown. Mr Moore appeared for accused, who was remanded till the 16th instant. Bail was refused. Seven half-crowns, also several plaster of pans moulds, were produced during the hearing of the case. The charges are in the nature of a sequel to a case of assault brought by O’Loughlin against another flaxmill employee at Linton. The latter immediately conveyed the moulds and coins to the police, stating that O’Loughliu had asked him to look after them. When in Court O’Loughliu said he had received the materials from an Italian.
