BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles Esq.,) and Crs. Ross, Rimmer, Robinson, Coley, Gibbs, and Adams. Apologies for absence were receives* from Crs Stewart and Speirs. Correspondence was read from J. T. Chalmers applying for a transfer ot lease of Borough Reserve to W. T. Gray. Transfer agreed to provided lease is prepared by by Borough solicitor. From Mr C. B. Norwood advising that he had engaged G. Whiucop as assistant at the Foxton gasworks. —Received. From School Commissioners asking if the Council could arrange to have the gorse and lupin cleared off section 325 and the probabfe cost. Ihe Town Clerk stated that together with the overseer they had inspected the section and was of opinion that it would cost ,£2O to clear it. He had notified the School Commissioners to this effect but had not yet received a reply. From. Edward Newman, M.P., acknowledging receipt of copy of resolution conveying the Council s thanks for his assistance in connection with the gas works loan and other matters. —Received. The poundkeeper reported that during the mouth of December nine head of cattle and fifteen horses had been impounded by the ranger, and driving fees amounting to res had been collected. It was decided on the motion of Cr Coley seconded by Cr Ross, that the ranger be requested to furnish to the Town Clerk on the first Monday in each month a list of stock impounded by him during the month, giving dates, names of owners and number of stock impounded. Cr Ross mentioned that the cutting at the corner of Johnston and Union Streets required attention, as the sand was beginning to come down. Cr Gibbs also drew attention to some very bad holes in Union Street.—These matters to be attended to as early as possible. Cr Coley drew attention to the fact that along some ot the streets where footpaths had recently been formed barbed wire was still being used in the fences, which he considered was very dangerous, and something should be done to prevent it. He stated also that a great number of people ■ were in the habit of riding bicycles and also driving traps along the footpaths. —Ho action was taken. The Council rose at 9 p.m.
