The Manawatu County Council invites tenders, to dose on Monday, 9th iust., for supplying and delivering 200 cubic 3'ards of metal on the Foxion-Shannon road, and also for trimming and metalling 14 chains of No. 2 Tine (near Foxton). The Palmerston North High School will re-open on Wednesday, February Ist. A boardinghouse for hoys is conducted under the personal supervision of the rector. Prospectuses may be obtained on application to the secretary (Mr W. Hunter), or after the 15th to the rector, Rev. J. E. Vernon, M.A., B.Sc. One day a Scottish boy and an English boy who nad been fighting were sepataled by their respective mothers, the .Scottish boy, although the si'mller of the two, being by far the-more pugnacious. “Whit garred ye fceht a big laddie like that ?” asked bis mother, as she wiped the blood from his nose. “ And I’ll lecht him again,” exclaimed the lad, “ if he says Scotsmen biv to wear kilts because their feet arc too big to get into their troosers.”
