WORK OF PARLIAMENT.

THE LONGEST SESSION. TWO RECORDS BROKEN. For actual days of meeting, and total duration, the session just ended beats all previous records. This is shown by a return prepared by the Clerk of the House of Representatives. The House commenced on June 28th and adjourned 158 days later, thus beating the previous record (152 days in 1907) by six days. It actually sat on 98 days (three more than in 1903, the next best), and the total proceedings occupied 815 hours. The last feature was not a record one, for in 1876 the hours totalled 553, and in 1903 reached the unbeaten record of 855BILLS PASSED. The record of last session’s work comprised the passing of 117 Bills, one of which (the Shipping and Seamen Amendment) was reserved for the Roval assent. Sixty-three Bills were dropped or not taken to the final stage.
