IMPORTANT TO DAIRY FACTORY EMPLOYERS.
(by OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT)
At the Magistrate’s Court, Otaki, before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., on Friday, the Otaki Dairy Company were proceeded against for failing to pay wages in full at not more than fortnightly intervals to their factory employees, Mr Harper represented the defendants and pleaded guilty to a technical breach, but stated that the Company had been in the habit for some time past of paying wages monthly, but the employees could have obtained half the wages at any time on demand. The Inspector (Mr Culver) said the Department only desired a nominal penalty in this case as the defendants had put themselves right since the action had been taken, but the department particularly wished to draw the attention of all dauy lactory employers to the Act. The S.M. said the Act was clear that the wages must be paid in full at not more than fortnightly intervals, but as the department only wished for a nominal penalty he would inflict a gue ios and 7s costs.
