TENNIS CLUB.

OPENING OF THE COURTS

The local tennis courts of the Foxtou Club were formally opened yesterday afternoon in ideal weather. There was a fair attendance of members of both sexes present. Mr A. D. Clemelt, chairman of committee, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, and called upon Mr Alf. Fraser, vice-president, to perform the opening ceremony. Mr Fraser briefly outlined the steps taken to relay the Courts, and said that the work cf asphalting had been well and faithfully carried out by the contractor, Mr Swift. The Club now possessed asphalt courts equal to any in the Dominion. He referred to the wisdom of slightly increasing the annual subscription, which did not place this healthgiving form of recreation beyond the means of any one. He paid a tribute to the enthusiasm displayed by the chairman, and expressed the wish that the Club would have a prosperous season, and formally declared the courts open. The courts were fully occupied up to a late hour last evening. The ladies supplied afternoon tea which was much appreciated.
