DOUBLE DROWNING ACCIDENT.
FATHF.R AND SON L.OSK THJvIR LIVLS. Hawkka, November 20. At 11 o’clock this morning a man named Frank Whiting, a carpenter, aged about 40, went to bathe in Robertson's lake. He took one of his sons, aged six years, on his back and floated away. Other bathers saw them disappear, but could not render any aid. The police were informed, and Sergeant Griffith, and Constable Hadler sought the aid of Messrs Lash (blacksmith) and McNiveu (plumber), who made effective grappling irons. There w'ere soon many volunteer divers. Among those doing good service were W. J. Mahoney, Daniel Robinson, John Grant and Frank O’Conner. The lake is very deep at this spot, there being about 30 feet of water and about three feet of weed on the bottom. The divers failed to locate the bodies, but at 4 p.m. the body of the father was hooked and landed. Shortly altenvards the body of the boy was drawn up, but slipped off the hook when at the surface. The body ol the boy has since been recovered.
