BOWLING.

A meeting of the Committee of the local Bowling Club was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present Messrs Stiles (president), Witchell (secretary), Rev. Mairs, Clemett, Hennessy, Woods, and Hornblow. It was decided to canvass for members. The erection of a building and tool house was left in the hands ot the Ground Committee and Mr Hennessy. It was resolved to officially open the green on the afternoon of Wednesday fortnight. Invitations are to be sent to neighbouring clubs to be present on the occasion. The ladies are to be invited to provide afternoon tea on the occasion and the Secretary was asked to convene a meeting of ladies for this purpose. It was decided to admit lady members at half price. The Secretary was authorised to endeavour to secure the services of the Baud for the opening day and that a general invitation be extended to the public to be present. It was decided that the caretaker take all his instructions in reference to the green from the Rev. Mr Mairs. A vote of appreciation of the latter gentleman’s services was recorded on the minutes aud he was elected an honorary member. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council to connect the green with the gas main. A number of other matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
