ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
Christchurch, November 2. The discharging of the Terra Nova was completed this afternoon, and the vessel will be docked on Friday. Mr J. Allan Thomson, one o( the Rhodes scholars from New Zealand, who intended accompanying the Antarctic Expedition as geologist with the western party, and who is a son of G. M. Thomson, M.P., has informed Captain Scott that, on account of ill-health he will not be able to go with the expedition. Captain Scott is at present in communication with the Government on the subject of the appointment of someone to take Mr Thomson's place, but the name of the scientist who will do so is not yet known. It is understood that he will be probably a gentleman who has had previous experience of geological work in the Antarctic. Sydney, November 3. Mr Priestly, one of the geologists in Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expedition, will accompany Captain Scott. He is leaving Sydney on Saturday,
