The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, October 15, 1910. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
Duking the Anglican Mission this week the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches postponed all week night meetings and the ministers connected with these denominations encouraged their members and adherents to attend the mission services. As a result a very large percentage of those who attended the mission services were made up of “ outsiders. ’ ’ The missioner, prior to delivering his final address, made a graceful acknowledgement otthe sympathy and support accorded the mission bv other denominations. It goes without saying that when other missions are held locally this sympathy will be reciprocated. In this democratic country we have no State Church and we hope we never shall. The State here does not esteem one church above another. So long as this is so will there be an absence of church
snobbery and nauseating patronage. In this young country there is nothing to hinder a closer communion between the various Protestant churches as has been evidenced in a minor way during the recent mission. Anyhow, the signs of the times leads us to believe that there is growing up a better understanding and with it a closer sympathy between churches —and long may it continue.
