MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The overseer, Mr Hickford, reported as follows at Wednesday’s Manawatu County Council meeting ;

Awahou Riding.—The road grader is now at work forming up two low patches along this road, and it will be necessary to provide for metalling the formation during the summer.

Awahou and Carnarvon Ridings. —The heavy rain on October 4th washed out an old wooden culvert on the Foxton-Sandon road near Motuiti, which I have since replaced with a two-foot concrete pipe culvert.

Whirokino Sub-division. —Mr C. Martin has completed his contract of grading, claying and metalling on No. 6 and No. 1 Tines. The stock wandering on the roads has knocked the fascines about on the cuttings to such an extent that Cr Barber decided to have the cutting fenced and protected from the stock.

Tramway.—The line between Himitangi nnd Rosina Siding has been overhauled and the damaged rails taken out, and the best of the 281 b. rails on hand put down. A good deal of work has been done during the past month at the Sandon end, in the shape of taking out decayed sleepers, tightening up fish plates and packing up the line. We have had the old station-shed removed and reerected at the engine shed for the purpose of a coal bin.

On the motion of Cr McKenzie, it was decided to ask the local bodies interested to suggest a suitable date for holding a conference in reference to the extension of the Foxton-Sandon tramway to Greatford or Marton.

It was decided to purchase a motor bicycle for the overseer. The offer of Messrs Wilson and Dalrymple to give the land for the Wharangi road to Foxton Beach was accepted, the Council to pay all expenses which may arise in connection with the road.

The chairman was appointed to represent the Council at the meeting of delegates of local bodies to be held to consider the joint appointment of an Inspector of Health.

Mr Newman, M.P., was accorded a vote of thanks for forwarding a copy of the By-laws Bill, and he was asked to support it in the House.
