MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The regular meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson yesterday. Present ;—Councillors J. G. Wilson (Chairman), R. B. McKenzie, T. Masters, W. Barber and J. Henson.
Before the business of the Council was commenced, the Chairman said it was his melancholy duty to move a motion of sympathy in regard to the death of the late Cr Dalton.
The motion was seconded by Cr Masters, and carried in silence. It was decided to forward a copy of the resolution to Mrs Dalton.
The following letters were received and read at the meeting:— From the Treasury, forwarding subsidy *5 S 4<D-
From Mr E. Newman, M.P., regretting that the reply of the Minister of Public Works re a grant towards raising the road between Glen Oroua and Orjua Bridge was unfavourable. From State Guaranteed Advances Department, forwarding declaration torms to be signed and stamped in connection with Oroua Downs and Tirorua road loans.
From Rangitikei County Council, stating that the Council had appointed two of its members to attend a meeting of delegates re tram extension to Greatford.
From Marton Borough Council, suggesting that the tram be extended to Marton Junction.
From Hunterville Town Board, expressing sympathy in connection with tram extension.
From Public Works Department, asking for a monthly return of the men employed on the roads. From the Bulls Town Board, agreeing to be represented at a conference re tram extension.
From Mr T. K. W. Dalrymple, agreeing to give land for new road to Foxton Heads if the Council would pay all expenses of transfer, and would pay half the cost of one fence adjoining the road through Mr Harney’s.
The Treasurer (Mr A. K, Drew) reported as follows : Balances. General account, debit, ?s lid ; Loan account, credit, 4s qd ; net debit balance, 3s yd. Riding accounts. Amounts available for expenditure : Sandon, is id; Waitohi, 5s id; Rougotea, Ss 6d ; Carnarvon, 3s id ; Kawakawa, ,£222 2s yd ; Awahou, ,£57 os 7d ; Whirokino, £97 os gd.
The Traffic Manager reported as follows :
The traffic for the month of September was satisfactory, the chief items being: Grain 45 tons, minerals tons, merchandise 146 tons, Jmanure 50tons, flax 29 trucks, metal 295 yards, timber 52,300 feet, fares 2s Bd.
The credit balance for the mouth was 17s. The expenditure was 4s gd, including is 2d extra payment. The converting of the old station at Sanson into a coal depot has been completed and an extra supply of coal had been stored there.
Accounts amounting to ,£694 15s gd were passed for payment. Mr Dalrymple’s offer with regard to a road to Foxton Heads was accepted.
