PROPOSED RIFLE CLUB.
Mr E. Newman, M.P., writes as follows in reference to the proposed rifle club: — “ I notice there is a movement in Foxton in the direction of forming, or re-forming, a defence rifle club. Ido not know who are the moving spirits in the matter, but I would like to say that I sincerely trust that the young men of the district will take up this matter, and that if my services will be ot any avail in regard to the acceptance of their services by the Government, I shall be very glad to do my best on their behalf. In view of the new military defence scheme, rifle clubs are going to receive much more encouragement than they have done in the past. This is an excellent thing, and I hope to see these clubs spring up in other town and country districts in New Zealand before long. There certainly should be one in Foxton, where there must be many young men who would make good shots, aud it would give them a capital outlet for their energies - ”
