PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
A meeting of managers of the local Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs Rev G. K. Aitkea (Moderator), J. Ross, T. Henderson, McCall, Hornblow, Parkes, Alex. Speirs and Claris. Formal correspondence was read and dealt with. The Moderator reported in reference to the proposed erection of the cottage manse at the Beach, which had been sanctioned by the Presbytery, and also re engaging the services of a student for that district during the summer months. The Church Extension Committe had consented to donate a sum of and St. Andrew’s Church, Palmerston N., ,£ls towards the student’s stipend guarantee. The Moderator’s report was adopted. It was explained that there should not be any difficulty in raising the balance of the money required locally. The resignation of Miss Furrie as organist was received with extreme regret, and a committee was set up to appoint a successor and to arrange a fitting appreciation of her services. A plan of a brass memorial to be erected in the church to the memory of the late Rev Jas. Duncan was received from Messrs W.m. Bock and Son, and it was decided to proceed with the work. The financial report, to be presented to the annual meeting ot members and adherents, was submitted, and was considered extremely satisfactory. It was decided to postpone the annual congregational meeting to the 20th inst., so as not to conflict with the Anglican Mission. It was decided that the election of managers be held at the congregational meeting, Messrs Henderson and Parkes were appointed delegates to attend the district committee meeting to be held at Foxtou on Monday next. Other minor matters were discussed, and the meeting rose.
