The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, September 10, 1910.
The Minister for Railways statement in the House on Thursin respect to the request by the Manawatu County Council to be allowed to continue the FoxtouSausou light railway to Bulls, and his threat to make the Fsxton port “go bung” has aroused a good deal of indignation throughout this district. His bombastic threat, foolish and illogical reasoning, must surely open the eyes of the general public to the Minister’s unfitness for the important position he holds. Something more than the mere blustering statement that the railways must pay is required from the Minister. He can intimidate all his officers with this bald statement, but one looks for a clearer insight into details than the honourable gentleman possesses, in order to give his subordinates a lead. His should be the guiding hand. His arguments against the extension of the Sandou light railway oaly accentuate the importance of carrying out this work. The feeding of the port, instead of lessening railway revenue would, on the contrary, increase it. We shall publish some facts and figures in connection with the subject which we hope may cause the Minister to change his mind on this subject. The statement about side-tracking Palmerston is so much balderdash.
