BOXING.

KAUFMAN OUTPOINTS LANG. Philadelphia, Sept. 6. Al. Kaufman, ot San Francisco, outpointed Bill Lang, the Australian heavyweight champion, in a six-round bout in the open air this evening, before ten thousand spectators. Lang was never able to evade the straight lefts ot his opponent to the lace, aud often was compelled to hold on to Kaufman to avoid punishment. He was very tired at the end of the fifth and sixth rounds from the successive lefts aud rights which Kaufman got home on the face and head. Lang missed numerous leads, and when he landed his blows lacked steam. In the fourth round Kaufman cut a nasty gash in Lang’s forehead, and then landed a hard right to the jaw, which distressed the Australian, who clinched aud held on. In the fifth aud sixth rounds Kaufman severely punished Lang, again staggering him with rights to the head, aud forcing him to clinch. Throughout the bout there was much wrestling. Altogether the fight did not demonstrate that either Lang or Kaufman would be a worthy opponent ot Johnson. Only in the second round did Lang show to any advantage, and from this to the close ot the fight Kaufman had things all his own way. As a spectacular exhibition it was disappointing. Time aud again Lang would lead with a left aud rush in order to clinch, the referee forcing the men apart. In the fifth round Kaufman drove Lang to the ropes in distress, and in the sixth Kaufman rushed Lang round the ring, but was unable to knock him out. Kaufman was not marked, but Lang’s face was swollen and cut. Kaufman won on points.
