GAYNOR’S WOULD-BE ASSASSIN.

New York, August 26. Gallagher was declared to have said that he was glad he shot the Mayor and was sorry he did not kill him. To this statement the prisoner has given a flat denial. “It is,” he asserts, “ not only a fabrication, but a deep-dyed lie.” Gallagher further said, “ I have been praying night and day since the occurrence, and God in His goodness has heard my prayer.”
