JUVENILE PARTY.
An exceptionally novel and enjoyable afternoon was spent by some forty little people yesterday, at the residence of Mrs Washington .Stewart, whose endeavours to please the little ones took no less a form than that of a loft. Xmas tree laden with toys and a “real live” Father Christmas in attendance. This novel event which, thanks to Mrs Stewart’s knowledge of child-nature, will undoubtedly live in the memory of the little ones for many a long day. The tree with its many coloured lights, and the bearded Father Christmas handing down toys certainly presented a brilliant and pleasing spectacle. Master Huia Clemett, in whose honour the birthday celebrations were held, admirably acted the part of host to his many little friends to whom he nicely expressed his thanks for the many handsome presents of which he was the grateful recipient. Mr Fowler, who is a born actor, as Father Christmas, was arrayed in a marvellous and appropriate costume, and was very highly approved of by the youthful receipients of his manifold gifts. A number of young ladies who ably assisted Mrs Stewart in her kindly efforts to entertain the little ones, contributed very much to the enjoyment of the afternoon. We are pleased to learn that all the future leaders of local society reached their homes in safety before dark, most of them more or less “ tired, but all happy.”
