The Press Association has forwarded the following telegram to the newspapers throughout the Dominion: —“On August 13th an association telegram appeared from New Plymouth with respect to the dispute that has been going on over the visit of the Manawatu team to Hawera. This telegram made allusion to a report of disgraceful conduct lodged against the Manawatu men, but later information shows that there was no foundation for the statement, which is positively denied, and that the message was based on a mistake. Under the circumstances the telegram should not have been circulated, and the association regrets that it should have been made the medium of what reads as an attack on the character of the Manawatu players.” At New Plymouth, on Thursday, the Wellington representative team, which drew with Auckland for the Ranfurly Shield, defeated Taranaki by 11 points to 6. The match played at Masterton, on Thursday between the Wairarapa B. team and the Wellington Wednesday reps., resulted in a win for Wairarapa by 16 points to 11.
