FOOTBALL.
In connection with the “rep.” fixture on Saturday next between Foxtou and Horowhenua, the Horowhenua Union has submitted the names of Messrs J. Smith, J. Freeman and A. Mcßain for the local sub-union to select a referee from.
Three of the selected backs— Osboldstone, Furrie and Redgrave —and one forward —Cook—have notified the secretary that they will be unable to make the trip on Saturday- Osboldstone's place at full-back will be taken by W. Cook and the vacancy in the forwards will be filled by Royal, who will play on the wing, Reibana going into the back. Two more backs will be selected to-day to fill the other vacant places. Should there be any further alteration in the team particulars of same will be posted up in Mr Ball's window to-night and to-morrow night. The only match to be played locally on Saturday will be the third-class game between Awahou and Albion. The Manawatu District Club has decided to forfeit in the match to have been played against Awahou on Saturday week and the last championship match, Awahou v. Albion will therefore be played on that date. Counting the match to be forfeited by Manawatu, the positions of the teams at present are as under: —
There being only one more cuP fixture to be played it will b e necessary for Awahou to win to have a chance for the banner. If the match results in a draw or Albion wins they will secure the banner, but if Awahou come out on top it will be necessary to play a final to decide the championship.
