It has 352 factories and 305 shops, and its nearest competitors are Napier, 296 and 3x5 ; Palmerston North, 254 and 293 ; Wanganui, 247 and 234 ; Nelson, 271 and 248 ; Timaru, 235 and 222; New Plymouth, 194 and 233 ; Gisborne, 18S and 283; Masterton, 14S and t6o ; Greymouth, 143 and 170; Oamaru, 132 and 152 ; Ashburton, 128 and 133 ; Hastings, 106 and 128 ; Blenheim, 102 and 84.
The four centres are as follows : —Auckland, 1539 and 1222 ; Wellington, 1047 and 1538 ; Christchurch, x3to and 1213 ; Dunedin, ri74and r 244.
