MONTHLY MEETING. (By Telegraph—Special to Herald).

Wanganui, This Day.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held last night. Present; — Messrs Pirani (chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Dixon, Fraser, Guthrie, M.P., O’Dea, Purnell and Spurdle. Resignations: Taylor, Aramoho ; Jones, Rongotea ; Knight, Eltham ; Meremere ; Lynch, Moutoa ; Porteous, Horopito ; and Climie, MangatokiAppointments:—R. Williamson, Parewa ; W. H. Wrightson, Rotokare; H. W. Jackson, Eltham D.H.S.

Leave of absence was granted to D- S. Barnard, Tarere ; R. Meads, College Street; M. J. Ballard, Gonville; J. Chaynie, Whenuaguia: C. A. Palmer, Rewa; G. Broughton, Awaburi ; A. F. Mawson, Okoia; U. J. Crabbe, Matapu ; E. Edwards, Mangaweka; A. M. Anthony, Whakamaia.

The application of the Moutoa School Committee for assistance in gravelling playground, and also for nine dual desks, was granted.

It was decided to leave recommendations of persons to act as truant inspectors in the hands of individual Board members. It was resolved that the chairman, Mr D, H, Guthrie, M.P., and the Chief Inspector should be the Board’s delegates to the Education Boards Conference to be held next month. A letter was received from the solicitors of the Education Institute, expressing its intention to issue an originating summons to decide whether or not the Wanganui D.H.S. should admit children below Standard ll.—lt was resolved to reply that the Board’s solicitors are Messrs Marshall and Hutton.

Mrs Haslett was appointed sole teacher at Meremere. The Bank overdraft stands at us sd. Accounts amounting to 17s were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned at 11,45 p.m. till Monnay, August Ist.
