SANSON TRAMWAY EXTENSION.

PETITION TO PARLIAMENT. At Mouday night's Council meeting the County Clerk forward a petition for signature by the Mayor and Councillors to be presented to Parliament with reference to the extension of the Sanson tramway to Greatford.

The petition pointed out that the Manawatu County Council has constructed a tramway from Himatangi to Pukenui, a distance of x 8 miles and within five miles of Greatford ; that the various local bodies in the Rangitikei and Manawatu Counties are desirious of extending the tramway to Greatford; and that application for permission to connect had been made but had been refused by the Minister for Railways. The petitioners therefore ask that the House will recommend that this connection be agreed to or that the connecting link of railway be constructed by the Public Works Department, as was authorised by Parliament at the time the late Mr McArthur was Minister for Public Works and was surveyed under his supervision. ,j The petition was signed by the Mayor and all the Councillors present.
