ÆMPLANING.

DOUBLE FLIGHT ACROSS THE CHANNEL. BRITISHER’S SUCCESS. London, June 4. The Hon. C. S. Rolls, responding to clamours of “ Speech ! Speech !” said that “ his flight was purely a question of mechanics. With a certain horsepower and a certain plain surface set at the right angle. There was no danger unless the engine stopped, and little then. All the credit was due to the designers.” French newspapers cordially congratulate Mr Rolls and declare his feat a remarkable one. King George complimented Mr Rolls, as did M. Bleriot (who was the first to fly the Channel) and Madame Bleriot and Count de Lesseps (who was the second to cross from France to England in an airship) and his wife.

(Mr Rolls flew across the Channel and back on a Wright bi-plane before breakfast last Thursday). CIRCLING ST. PAUL’S. London, June 4, Colonel Capaar, of the Balloon School at South Farmborough, with two companions, made a secret trip in the new Army dirrigible Beta, 35 horse power. They left Farmborough at ix.3o and steered by the stars for St. Paul’s, which they reached at 2.15. They circled the Cathedral, and returned at the rate of 25 miles an hour. The wind enabled Farmborough to be reached in 90 minutes. The average height flown was one thousand feet.
