CORRESPONDENCE.
[to the editor.J Sir, —I thought that the municipal coal depot had died a natural death until I read ‘ ‘ Ratepayer’s ’ ’ letter in your last issue. I fail to see in what way a municipal coal depot will benefit Foxton. To compete with the Government and other coal companies doing business here would only be squandering the ratepayers’ money. A reference was made to imposing further duties upon the Town Clerk. I think this official does quite enough for the remuneration received, and the suggestion to ask him to measure out coal in addition to his other duties is preposterous. I venture to state that Foxtou’s Town Clerk is one of the most thorough-going and conscientious in the Dominion, an 4 so long as he carries out the duties which at present devolve upon him to the satisfaction of the Council he has a perfect right to take on whatever extra work he chooses. However, I don’t think there is any need for “Ratepayer” to to worry about the extra duties, he will never be called upon to perform them. —I am, etc., Another Ratepayer.
