MEET AT HIMATANGI.

A very successful meet of the Manawatu Hunt Club was held at Himatangi, on Saturday afternoon. Had the affair been made public at an earlier date there would have been a very large gathering to witness the hunt. The “drag” was laid by that enthusiastic huntsman, Mr J. Donaldson, over an excellent course through Messrs Farmer’s and George Coley’s properties. The hounds led the chase over a splendid sweep of country and the obstacles were all prettily negotiated. It was a fine sight. The “kill” took place near Mr Coley’s house the finishing obstacles were a drain and fence. The following were among those who took part:—Messrs J. Donaldson, on Lulu ; A. Buick, Wisdom; Huntsman Bennett, Putui; L- Lumsdeu, Catch-up; T. Buick, Kai Enn; S. Lumsden, Rangi; R. McKenzie, Clydesdale; W. Buick, Leo Grande; H. Lumsden, Dolly; G. Farmer, Jack ; B. McEweu, Ringman ; D. Tennant, Fibre, G. Hopping, Surprise; J. Hehir, South Queen ; M. McEwen, Tracey

The master, Mr J. L. Buick, calcd for three cheers for the property-owners, cheers were also givsn for those who laid out the course and to the Himatangi sports. Mr George Coley then invited the huntsmen and those taking part to afternoon tea, which was laid in the spacious dining-room. Those present were hospitably treated by Mrs and Miss Coley and a right royal time was spent. Cheers that nearly lifted the roof were given for Mr and Mrs Coley and a happy gathering dispersed.

Club members were unanimous that the course was equal to the best in the district. Another meet over the same course will be held in about a month’s time. The master said that later on a run would be arranged nearer to Foxton in order to give townspeople an opportunity of witnessing the hunt.
