NEW ZEALAND WINE NOT LIQUOR.
A test case concerning the liquor licensing laws was before the Mastertou Court last week. A charge was made against W. Lamb, proprietor of the Tararua vineyards, of selling liquor and keeping it for sale within the noliceuse area of Mastertou. The point of the proceedings lay in the fact that the Licensing Act of iSSi provides that the Act shall not apply to wine made from grapes growu in New Zealand. The Alcoholic Liquors Control Amendment Act, .1595, provides that liquor shall not be sold in a no-license area and no distinction is made between New Zealandgrown liquors and others. After legal argument, the magistrate upheld the contention of the defence, and the case was dismissed.
