INSTALLATION SOCIAL AND DANCE.
Lovers of the light fantastic were well catered for at the installation social and dance held by the Brethren of the Manawatu Lodge, U.A.0.D., in the Masonic Hall last evening. The arrangements for the function had been thoroughly completed, and everything passed off in a most enjoyable and pleasing manner. The attendance was good, and about thirty-five couples graced the floor to excellent music supplied by Messrs F. C. Berthold (piano) and Carl Berthold (violin). Visiting brethren were present from Levin, Shannon, and Otaki. The dance programme was interspersed with vocal items, which added materially to the evening’s enjoyment, songs being ably rendeied by Bros. W. Hooker, Oallichan (Levin), Musso (Levin) (encore), Preston (encore), L. E. Reade (encore), and Mr Bosley. Mr P. Lenihan danced a hornpipe, which was well executed, and Miss E. Lenihan delighted those present with a Highland Fling, both items receiving well merited applause. Mrs J. Dunn and Mr F, C. Berthold kindly played the accompaniments. Considerable interest was taken in the installation of the newly-elected officers of the Foxton Lodge ot Druids, and special preparations were made in the centre of the hall, at a suitable interval, for this ceremony, the proceedings taking the form of true lodge routine. After the visiting brethren had been admitted and accorded the Druids’ welcome and lodge honours, Installing Master Bro. Hartill, assisted by P.D.P. Bro. Allan, installed the following- officers ; A.D., Bro. A. Dudson : V.A., Bro. E. Healey ; secretary, Bro. P. T. Robinson; treasurer, Bro R. Parkes ; 1.G., Bro. R. Millar ; 0.G., Bro. E. Ball ; A.D. A.D. Bro, A. Dudson spoke, thanking the members of the lodge for the honour they had conferred on him by electing him to the position he now held. I.P.A. Bro. E. Fuller also thanked the officers and members of the lodge for their assistance in carrying out the duties of the order during his term of office. Bro. Dr G. J, Adams was called upon to perform a pleasant little duty, in presenting to LG. Bro. Millar a trophy in the form of a member’s sash, presented by A.D. Bro. Dudson to the member of Manawatu Lodg« who introduced the greatest number of new members during the past six months. Bro. Adams, in making the presentation, said it was a great pleasure to him to be able to make the presentation, and eulogised the efforts of Bro. Millar in securing so many worthy members. He trusted that Bro, Millar would go on doing his best in the future as in the past, and that this sash would act as an incentive to further efforts in the future. Bro. Millar suitably responded* Dancing was resumed after the installation ceremony was completed, and continued until the wee sma’ hours, all present enjoying themselves to the utmost, A plentiful and toothsome supper was provided. Extras were kindly contributed by Miss Webb and Mrs J, Dunn, and the duties of M’s.C. were carried out by Dr. Adams, assisted by Mr J. Gillies. The secretary, Mr P. T.
