It will be seen by a perusal of the report published elsewhere in this issue that the Leviu Borough Council is willing to allow Foxton to draw its water supply from the former’s source upon certain conditions not yet made public. Levin’s Mayor, with characteristic energy and enterprise took up the local Council’s enquiry and lost no time in getting expert advice, facts and figures bearing on the subject so far as it affected Levin, and which were submitted to each Councillor prior to the Council meeting. It would appear '■hat Levin’s simply would in no way be jeopardised by the combination, and further, from a financial point of view, provided Foxton agreed to the terms suggested, would considerably lighten Levin’s burden of cost. Until the conditions of combination are made public it is impossible to express an opinion as to whether it will be to Foxton’s advantage to adopt this alternative scheme or not. In any case before anything definite is settled we should like to see an estimate for the Shannon scheme submitted to the local Council. Then the ratepayers can seriously consider the three schemes : (1) Artesian, (2) Levin combination and (3) the Shannon scheme, and finally decide upon the most suitable, efficient and permanent before taking a poll. The Levin combination should not be seriously considered until an estimate for the Shannon scheme is obtained.
