A BRUTAL COMMANDANT.

Constantinople, May 23. An Albanian noble, holding rank in the Turkish army, who was captured whilst serving with the rebels during the recent troubles was condemned to death for desertion.

Mrza Bey, the Turkish commandant, refused to excuse the noble’s son, who was a member of the Uskub Garrison, from joining in the firing party. The son accordingly fired in the air.

Mrza Bey had him arrested for this act, and the young man then committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell.

The Albanians are very indignant over the incident.

Mrza Bey has been removed to another garrison.
