AN INCIPIENT FIRE.

The fire bell rang out an alarm on Thursday night. The cause was an incipient fire in the rooms behind Mr W. Howan’s butchering establishment. The fire was first noticed by Mr Snow, who was walking along the alley-way. He quickly raised an alarm. He noticed the fire on the landing at the top of the stairway. A band of willing workers soon got the flames under before much damage was done. The building is a two-storeyed one, and owned by Mr J. Robinson. The upstairs portion is let to Mr Wauklyn. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. No one was on the premises when the fire started.
