The attendance shield at the local school this week was won by Standard I. with an average attendance of go‘6 per cent.
The Secretary of the Albion Football Club desires to publicly acknowledge receipt of a donation from Mr John Stevens, of Bulls.

The services to-morrow in the Methodist Church will be conducted in the morning by Mr J. Chrystall and in the evening by Mr H. Smith.
The services at the Presbyterian Church to-morrow will be conducted in the morning by the Rev. E. Walker, of Halcombe, and in the evening by Mr HBillens, of Palmerston North. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Harbour Board it was decided that the West Coast Steamship and Trading Company’s lease be approved and the seal of the Board affixed thereto.
Mr P. J. Henuessy has been served with a writ by Elizabeth Jane Campbell and D. H. Campbell, claiming damages through collision with a motor car. The case will come on at the sitting of the Supreme Court at Palmerston next week.
At Wednesday’s meeting of the Harbour Board the Chairman and Mr Stiles were appointed a committee to meet the tenants in reference to their request for permission to erect a jetty at the Heads. The committee to furnish a report to the Board at its next meeting. Mr W. T. Wood, who has been on a health-recruiting trip to Rotorua returned to Palmerston North on Wednesday. Although Mr Wood's health has improved as a result of the trip he has not yet fully recovered and intends returning to Rotorua where he will remain for a further six weeks. The All Saints Children’s Ball will take place on Tuesday next at the Town Hall. It will be plain and fancy dress and the little ones will have the floor from 7.30 p.m. till to p.m., after which the adults will enjoy themselves. A substantial supper will be provided and an excellent evening should be spent for the sum ot is. At the funeral on March 25th, of Senator Ricard, at Pommard, France, the church was found to be closed by the orders of the Bishop of Dijon, in accordance with instructions issued last year for the refusal of Christian burial, to all who voted for “the law of spoliation,” and who, in the eye of the Church, are puclic sinners. The interment took place without a religious ceremony. A further reminder is given of the continuation classes in English and arithmetic which are to begin in the local school on Monday evening next. We understand that special provision is being made for the coaching of pupils who are desirous of obtaining the Standard V. Competency and Standard VI. Proficiency Certificates. The fees have been made as low as possible, being fixed at los per term of ten weeks. Instruction will be given on two evenings of each week from 7 to 9 p.m. Students may sit for examination when the school is being examined at the end of the year. We feel sure that all will recognise the value of these classes, and that the young people will avail themselves of the opportunity of qualifying for higher positions by improving their educational standing. The headteacher will be pleased to give any further information which may be required.
