“MIZPAH.”
TO-NIGHT. The Taylor-Carringtou Dramatic Company will re-visit Foxton tonight when they will appear in the management's latest and greatest success, Mizpah. The following extract is from the Thames Star: “Mizpah, a sensational drama by J. B. Mulholland, was produced by the Taylor-Carrington Company to a large and appreciative audience. It must be admitted that the Taylor-Carriugtou’s stage director, Mr Keegan, works wonders in the matter of stage craft and realistic representation. Not a detail is lost; the scenery has been specially painted, whilst all the accessories are as usual present. Neither have the leaders gone back on their determination to present their many patrons with only their best. These are factors that have added to the reputation of the company, and the success of their production. It has perhaps taken years to implant and cultivate that feeling of undoubted confidence on the part of the public, but that it exists is proved by the crowded houses that always greet the company’s appearance at Thames, The Taylor-Carringtou Company is to the smaller towns what the Bland Holt, J. C. Williamson, and Anderson combinations are to the cities.
Last night’s production greatly pleased the large audience, the members of which closely followed the action of the play. Mr Chas, Taylor as Corporal McClinker, an Irish widower, was simply in his element, and he made the most of an original part, causing the audience to laugh loud and long. Miss Carrington was cast as Mrs Billings, an American widow, and this talented lady again showed her versatility, being well up to her usual high standard. Miss N. Dalton (as Edith Douglas), Miss Minnie Lancaster (as an outspoken Irish girl), and Miss Dora Whynue, lent valuable assistance, and a special word of praise is due to Miss Dalton for her effective acting, Mr C, Archer (as the manly Jack Forrest), Mr C. M. Keegan (a revengeful Spaniard), and Messrs Leslie Jamieson, Thompson, Paget and others, added their quota to what was undoubtedly a splendid production of a powerful play.
