MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mauavvatn County Council was held at Sanson yesterday. Present; Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), McKenzie, Dalton, Masters, Henson, Kendall and Barber. The following letters were receiped and laid before the Council: From the Treasury, announcing a refund of paid-ons on the tram. From the Premier, stating that the Council’s request for an amendment of the State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909, would receive due consideration. From the Chiet Mechanical Engineer, stating that the new engine for the tram line had been passed by the- Inspector, and was now being erected at Petone. From Mr W. O’Brien, Foxton, applying for a slaughtering license. —Granted.

From the Secretary Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, stating that the Council was liable this year for £369 is rod as levy to the Board, and asking for £lB4 10s nd, the first instalment.

From Messrs Mellsop, Elliott and Co., asking what assistance the Council would give towards fencing the proposed road deviation at Himatangi. From Mr W. E. Coley, Moutoa, offering to act as ranger. From the Foxton Harbour Board, asking the Council to have a valuation of the Heads and Boundary lauds made as soon as possible. Mr A. K, Drew, Tramway Manager, reported that the traffic still keeps up, and the credit for the month was £3l 2s rid. Mr G- Hicktord; County Engineer, reported as follows: Cr Barber and myself met Cr Venn and another Councillor and Engineer Markham, of the Horowhenua County Council, in reference to the maintenauce of the Shannon Ferry road, and we agreed that the Manawatu County Council be recommended to pay £1 for ,£1 subsidy for the maintenance of the road. Several drains along the roads in the Whirokino Sub - division, have been cleaned out during the month.
