THE OTIRA ACCIDENT.
DEATH OF ONE OF THE INJURED. Grkvmouth, May 4. Charles Beamer, one of the victims of the Bealey Tunnel catastrophe brought to Greymouth yesterday, has just died from his injuries. He was 35 years of age, and was the one pinned between the truck and a beam of timber. Dr. M’Brearty was more anxious in his case than in any of the others. The other three, including Baird, who was buried up to the neck for several hours, are progressing favourably. News from Bealey respecting the two entombed men is highly satisfactory. The side tunnel is now within eight feet of their prison. The relieving party can hear them distinctly, so they may be released any time. Christchurch, May 4.
The correspondent of the Star telegraphed this morning that he had just come from the tunnel where Doyle and Duggan were still entombed, but still cheerful. They reported that the rock was splitting on the inside as the result of shots fired by the rescue party in the course ot the excavation of the new drive.
