OUR NEW GOVERNOR.

London, April 28

The new title of Sir DicksouPoyuder, Governor-elect of New Zealand, who has been raised to the peerage is Baron Islington

The West Indian Club banqueted Sir John Dickson-Poyuder, Governor-elect of New Zealand. Sir Daniel Morris, a prominent West Indian, presided, and the Hou. W. Hall-Joues was present. Sir John Dickson-Poynder said he looked forward with hope and pleasure to the project ot a high and responsible position. He intended to throw himself actively and sympathetically into the social and industrial life of New Zealand. He strongly advocated a reciprocal arrangement between Canada and the West Indies. The West Indian traders with foreign connections feared the resentment of foreign countries, but Sir John believed the apprehensions were exaggerated. He did not believe the family arrangement was regarded as a hostile act if discreetly and judiciously established between the component parts of the Empire, Sir John Dickson-Poynder has taken the seat of Baron Islington in Devon.
