FOXTON FOOTBALL.
The action of the delegates at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union, held at Palmerston North on Monday evening last, clearly shows that that Union has no desire whatever to assist the Foxton Sub-Union in having football in this part of the district put on a satisfactory footing. Dast season the executive of the subunion experienced great difficulty
in getting the parent body to define its boundaries, and it was only at the end of the season that this matter was, as footballers in the district thought, finally settled, to take effect this year. The boundaries, as defined by the Manawatu Union, included Sanson and Rongotea, but at Monday night’s meeting the Mauawatu Union practically decided to allow the clubs in these places to take part in their competitions. This action by the Mauawatu Union leaves only two courses open to the subunion—either to allow the parent body to ride roughshod over them or to fight the matter. Suggestions have been made that it would be better to let the sub-union fall through and nominate a senior and junior team in the Mauawatu competitions, but when it is considered the trouble local enthusiasts have gone to during the past two or three years to have the government of local football placed on a satisfactory footing, it would not be in the best interests of the game to go back to the old state of affairs. The Mauawatu Union definitely fixed the boundaries last year, and if they now want to go back on that decision Foxtou must forward the matter on to the higher authority—the New Zealand Rugby Union —and get their ruling on the point.
