FIRES AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

Palmerston was thrown into a state of the wildest excitement on Tuesday night by a most sensational series of tiros. The first occurred at S o'clock, almost completely destroying the Palmerston North High School. While the High School was still blazing another broke out at the rear of Mr Pegdeu’s premises, which destroyed Mr Pegdeu’s storing, packing and upholstering rooms, and also completely gutted Messrs Porteous and Co.’s stables. The third outbreak was discovered in Messrs Millar and Giorgi’s mercery establishment, where great damage was done to the stock and building. There seems little doubt that the fire is the work ot an inceuL diarist.
