DOG TAX COLLECTION.

[to the editor.]

Sir—ln reply to Mr Tuchy's statement in j'our last issue re frightening his boy, who was iu the borough accompanied by an unregistered dog, on Saturday last. The facts are as follows: I saw the boy and dog near Johnston Street. I asked the boy to let me see the collar on the dog and he put his arm around the dog’s neck aud commenced to cry. I looked at the collar aud saw that the dog was unregistered. I asked the boy where he Jived aud he said, near the cemetery. 1 told him to go home intending to follow him in order to secure the registration of the dog. I followed the boy at a convenient distance and when he got opposite Mr O. Cook’s Mr Cook picked him up iu his cart and tied the dog to the dray. I then spurted on my bicycle aud told Mr Cook I wanted the dog as it was unregistered. Mr Cook refused to give me the dog and drove off with it. I had no inteutiou ot frightening the child but my instructions are to collect the dog tax and it is my duty to seize on every unregistered dog that comes into the borough whether the owner lives inside or outside of the borough area. Thanking you iu anticipation.—-I am, etc. K. J. Martin, Borough Dog Tax Collector.
